The XIII UNESCO CREATIVE CITIES CONFERENCE took place from June 10th to June 15th in Fabriano, Italy. During the Meeting, the International Traditional Knowledge Institute – Chapter US with Kansas City, USA, Creative City of Music, held a conference on the subject “Voyage of the Drums” in the Crafts & Folk Art Pavillon on June 12th.
The project was presented by one of the creators: Jacob Wagner, delegate of UNESCO Creative City Kansas City. The aims of Voyage of the Drums are the following:
- Bring together cities and projects focused on cultural heritage and creativity of the Drum and drumming – to express cultures of creative resistance to racism and inequality.
- Build shared understanding of the challenges and opportunities of promoting the drum and drumming as part of the African cultural diaspora and other indigenous cultures today.
The Voyage of The Drum is a creative opportunity of the UNESCO Creative Cities Communities to present the DRUM as one of the first instruments cultivated by many cultures over a span of multiple centuries. The project celebrates the great cultural impact of drums, exploring their significance as emblems of music, craft, folk art and more.
